Can you remember? Our track team was Catholic League Champs. Not once, but twice. Yes... they won it all in '58 and '59. Was that our only Catholic League Champs? Hard to believe. Check out the photos with "Scottie" winning the 880 and Rich Vassallo "Nipping" Jim Bantum in the 220. I remember the track team traveling to New York City and coming back with trophies. I always wondered if it was cold running outdoors up there. Didn't matter to them, they always came home with the GOLD!!! Which was then wrapped in a purple cloth. Such regal colors "Purple & Gold"

Those were great days. I was on the 1959 Track team that won the Catholic League Title, and was also on the Freshman Track Team that won the Freshman Catholic League Title. Mr.Lou Nicastro was our coach at St. Mary's where we won the City CYO Title in 1955, and the entire team was on the team that won the Freshman Title. Let's see if you you remember some names.
"Carrots" Carraccio, "Weiner" Martosella, Jo-Jo Walker (Moose), Richie Vassallo. Besides myself, all a part of the Freshman Championship Team. If you put all these people and add Chalie Hammock, Joe Grill, Jimmy Bantum, Billy Scott, Carl Grant, Ulysses Wilson, Bruce Merriman, John Slawek, John Kerper, you have the 1959 Championship Team.
Chalie, you are a walkin' encyclopedia. "Carrots", "Weiner", "Moose", Strangely, I remember all of those guys. All from one parish? I guess St. Columba had all the football players.
