There are so many........here's a start :
1) Getting there ! R bus to Broad St. Subway at Hunting Park; or, R bus to #60 trolley to subway at Allegheny.
2) Meeting a diverse group of guys from around the city.
3)Captain Eddie breaking an apple in half at lunch.
4)Never having an 8th period - 2:00dismissal with the athletes all 3 years!
5) BB and FB games
6) Some of the "characters" we had as teachers.
7) Homeroom with Sid.
8) Some of the "characters" we had as classmates.
9) Wearing a Purple & Gold Sweater to class.
10) Feeling a part of "something" bigger.......tradition.

You guys will probably think I am a little strange... but I will always remember exposition of the Blessed Sacrament in the Gym. I can still smell the incense and hear us singing "Tantum Ergo" in latin. A beautiful memory.

I remember leaving St Mary's and being a little nervous having to report to St.Peter's Annex my freshman year. Mr. Dufranne calling everybody "Ace" and forcing us to buy dance tickets. Things got better when we went to RCHS in my freshman year. Being an athlete had many benefits such as Joe mentioned, no last period. Roman Catholic High School taught me values that will never be forgotten. Talking to people outside of RCHS seems strange as they do not know the "feeling". We didn't make friends at RCHS, we started a new family. Here we are 45 some years later and we are still talking as if we were back at school. That's what I remember and will never forget.

I was supposed to say after my freshman year. Forgive me.

Was that the last year for the Annexes?? I went right to Roman. Maybe some of us were slow learners and had to go right to the "Big House"

After spending 2 years at St Josaphat’s and coming to RC in junior year was a rude awaking. Fr. Keul couldn’t understand why a junior could find his homeroom.
Got a lot of time in detention for not knowing the ropes.
However, made some great lifetime friends
How about the tuna hoagies on Friday, I have been trying to duplicate them for 49 year without success.
Mr. McMenamin putting $20 on his shoulder and challenging anyone to knock it off. You didn't hear a peep in the class after that!
Fathers Fitzpatrick & Sikora pointed me in the right direction to get me started in a successful career.

The last year for St. Peter's Annex was in 1955. I had Father Kline, Father Loughrey, and Mr. Du Frayne. We also had a Father Urichek, but he never came to the main school after 1955.
How about these sayings:

Mr DuFrayne: " Hey Ace"
Father Barniak: "Hey Kid"
Mr. Daiutolo: "Hey Pal"

Favorite teachers:
Father Kline (Biology)
Father York (Chemistry)
Father John Walsh (French)
Father Nugent (BB Moderator & Religion)
Mr. McMenamin (General Business & BB coach)
Mr. Nicastro (My Track coach both at St. Mary's & RCHS)
Of course our Rector: Fr. Dolan

Favorite moment:
Playing Cardinal Dougherty in a special game to decide playoffs. 1st time RCHS was ever in playoffs. Too bad we lost, but I still believe to this day that we were the better team.

Playing football and being coached by John Hoban Sr.Seeing him in my neighborhood delivering Friehofer bread and hoping he didn't see me smoking. On the stage crew for the school play, but also doing a cameo as an Irish lass to Jake's Vagabond Sailor.Wearing the same sport coat for 4 years.Playing freshman baketball for Ray Dauitilo.Being able to see the ladies room next door [vaguely] in Fr.Conway's Latin Class--and catching him looking one day, also.Captain Eddie going to the window and telling the noisy trucks outside "For Christ sake, put it in second!Blinky Barr rapping Dennis Kelly's forehead with his knuckles--making me wave a flag out the window whenever anyone in the last row got an algebra answer correct[not often].More to come

A couple other rememberances :
1) Captain Eddy closing all the windows when it was 98 outside because "we were using the open windows as a shield for our talking!"
2) Jake leading the hockey games in Mr.Maguire's Mechanical Drawing class using T-Squares.
3) Victor Hugo's "Roman Rock".
4) Fr. Pazo............ugggggh !
5) Fr. Sikora's love for MacBeth...he knew it by heart; zzzzzzzzz.
6) When I was a Freshman at St. John's High, we had a debate team that came to Broad & Vine to compete; it was held in the "new" Biology Lab, and I defeated Dizzy Drennen, and retired with a career1-0 mark as a debater! We were so impressed with RCHS, we closed St. John's at the end of the year, and we all became Cahillites.
